The match began and I had my notes. I came an hour early into the stadium before every match to practice my shots and get myself going. The energy around the arena was simply breathtaking. I was doing free throws and John came from behind. We shook hands and he was short and muscular. I knew him, studied him every part of his shot, the defense was completely in mind. And he went to the locker room. I was still practicing my shot.
The game began and John came down with the shots blazing at us. I knew that and we all knew that. By the time the second quarter started, I made him drive to the basket. He missed most of his shot and we picked up the tempo. I started with my jumpers. We started to intercept passes.
End of game 60-61 we won by 1 point. Everyone was celebrating and I was thinking all this work and I won by a mere 1 point. In this way, there is no way that I will win the summer league title. I started thinking, "what did I miss?", " where did we give easy points? ", " when were we tired and shooting the least? "
That evening at the court all I was doing was thinking and it hit me--
We had less defensive formation since Austin and Stephen were on the bench, and no one was there to rebound. It changed something in me. What will happen when will be injured?
46 days to the title.
