By the end of the 2nd quarter, we were down by 20 points and exhausted as we didn't train and kept our fitness level. At this point, my legs were not even moving when offense time came I couldn't even run or dribble. When I took the 15-foot jumper and it was an airball. This happened till the end of the 3rd quarter. Coach came in and said aim for the weak dribbler.
We picked many of them and forced them to dribble out of the bounds of court and eventually we got multiple inbound. We made them run for the ball however at the end of the fourth quarter we lost by 18 points. The match was over in a snap of a finger and it was ended with a handshake. I came back home totally frustrated with myself. It was my responsibility to get the guys in line, to get them in shape and perform at the highest level. And I failed at it miserably, I took to myself then that no what I have to do I will not lose another match just because I didn't work hard.
I took the recording and sat down with my book. I studied myself, what were the shots I made that cost us the match. I was taking too many shots and Ball hunters were giving me the ball on purpose because I was tired and couldn't shoot. I didn't adapt to the changing situation. Ball hunters liked to run a particular type of offense which made them give the ball outside the arc. I noticed that and saw 2 things from there.
1- How many shots have we given from that strategy? answer: 13 3-pointers
2- Who took those shots? answer: Jersey No.3 Reggie
Then it was my time,
- How many shots did I take?
- What position did I take it from?
- Was I forced to take that shot?
- What position was I forced to go?
- Who was blocking me?
- How many shots did I get in?
All answers were leading to a single solution. I must train to get my stamina better because I was tired by half 2nd quarter. I took my notes and went back on the court at 6 pm completely isolated by myself. I wanted no one around me, No one. I just wanted me, the ball, the notes, and the hoop.
Lesson: When you lose, you must go in-depth of why you lost. Know everything.
